From the beginning of November, the Thai authorities plan to introduce a smoking ban on the main 20 beaches, popular among the majority of tourists who come to rest in Thailand from Kyiv and other countries of the world. This was reported by the head of the local department of marine and coastal resources, writes the Bangkok Post. The severity of the prohibition and the seriousness of the intentions are determined by its punishment. The maximum penalty for violating this ban can be imprisonment for one year or a fine of 100,000 baht (about three thousand dollars).

The reason for the restrictions was a recent study conducted on Patong Beach on the island of Phuket. There they found 101,058 butts along 2.5 kilometers. Cigarette butts accounted for about a third of all trash collected on the beach.
